not healed, but healing.
A lot of people in the Wellness world present themselves as someone who is well - who is healed and whole.
It makes sense. Isn't that more appealing? If you are selling me your healing service, don't I want to see how great your life is and desire to be just like you? Wouldn’t it be amazing to be happy, healthy and spiritually evolved. I’d pay money for that – wouldn’t you?
But is any of that real? Let's be more real.
We are all here together at this moment in time, having a human experience. Let's just pause and let that sink in. Isn't it fantastic? Isn't it a miracle just to know each other? What more do we need?
Yet, the human experience includes pain, sadness and suffering. It includes joy, fun, health and bliss too. But suffering is a vital part, and unless you are an enlightened being, you are not immune to it.
So, as Wellness practitioners, why do we have to put on the mask for the world and pretend that everything is great all the time? Why do we have such a drive to help others heal when we still have so much work to do ourselves?
Hmm, maybe no one will want to come to my yoga classes or tea meditations anymore if I tell them that I have been having neck and shoulder pain for months, or that I often clench my teeth when I sleep and wake up with excruciating headaches. A few days ago, when I mentioned to someone that I was feeling stressed, their response was “what does a yogi have to be stressed about?”
How come the yoga isn't working for me? Don't I practice what I preach? I do. And I am still a human having the very human experience of learning how my mental and emotional states are showing up in my body.
I am a work in progress. I am not healed - but I am healing. It is a process.
I am dedicated to doing my work, and we can all do our work together. As Ram Dass said, “We’re all just walking each other home.”
I’ve realized that there is no singular teacher or leader that can guide us through life. There is no captain steering the ship. It may be a little unnerving, but it is also quite beautiful to discover that we are all completely capable to be our own teachers when we start to tune into our personal awareness. Sometimes we can help someone on their path. And they can help us too! But the master can only be found within.
For my friends who are Wellness practitioners and for anyone who is on their own journey of healing and personal growth, how does this land with you? I look forward to reading your messages and learning from one another.
